Ordovician Trilobites from Morocco

Parabarrandia aff. Crassa

Order: Corynexochida (Kobayashi, 1935)

Family: Nilfeidae (Angelin, 1854)

Genus: Parabarrandia (Prantl & Pribyl, 1948)

Species: Parabarrandia aff Crassa

History / Discussion:

Parabarrandia crassa (Barrande) is described for the 1st time in Bohemia (in the formation of Dobrotiva), in Brittany (Traveusot) and in Portugal (formation of Valongo) Parabarrandia would rather be located in llandeilo darriwilian.

In Morocco in the Taddrist formation the age would be at the Upper llanvien or the lower Llandeilo. (Middle Darriwilian).
The species remains to be studied.

Location: Southeast of the village of Battov, near the Tinzmite wadi (Morocco).

Pliomeridae Sp

Order: Cheirurina (Harrington & Leanza, 1957)

Family: Pliomeridae (Raymond, 1913)

Subfamily: Pliomerinae (Hawle and Corda, 1847)

Genus: Placoparia or Pliomerops

Species: Sp

History / Discussion:

The genus Placoparia was created by Hawle and Corda in 1847 on Bohemian material (Trilobites Zippei, Boeck, 1828).

The genus exists in Brittany with 3 well defined species from the Middle Darriwilian:

- Placoparia Cambriensis

- Placoparia Borni

- Placoparia Tourneminii

In Morocco, the Placoparia genus is present in the formation of the Taddrist in Battou (Middle Darriwilian = Llanvien).

Their is 2 species:

- A small species close to Placoparia Zippei

- This new species that I had never encountered before.
Is it an ancestor of Placoparia Grandis from Caradoc Sandbien?

Age :

Middle Ordovician.
Taddrist Formation
Darriwilian (Llanvien)
Didymograptus Murchisoni area

Location: South-East of the Village of Battou, near the Tinzmite Wadi  (Morocco).

Eccoptochile Sp

Under Order: Cheirurina (Harrington & Leanza, 1957)

Family: Cheiruridae (Salter, 1864)

Subfamily: Eccoptochilinae (Lane, 1871)

Genus: Eccoptochile (Hawle and Corda, 1847)

Species: Sp

History / Discussion:

The genus Eccoptochile was created by Hawle and Corda in 1847 on Bohemian material (Cheirurus Claviger, Beyrich, 1843).
The genus exists in Brittany (France) with two species:

- Eccoptochile Mariana

- Eccoptochile Guillieri

These species come from the Darriwilian region, notably from the Traveusot formation (Martigné-Ferchaud Synclinarium). Their presence is also reported in Spain and Portugal (Valongo Formation, etc.).

In Morocco the eccoptochile genus is present in the Taddrist Formation in Battou of the Middle Darriwilian (Llanvien).

The species is not described but could approach the Breton Eccoptochiles, in particular the Eccoptochile Guillieri.

Age :

Middle Ordovician
Taddrist Formation
Darriwilian (Llanvien)
Didymograptus Murchisoni area

Location: Southeast of the village of Battou, near the Tinzmite Wadi (Morocco).
